about

:: Background ::
This is a cover of a track from an obscure midwest 80s pop band called The Original Thoughts. In a shoebox of old tapes, I found a dusty cassette cryptically labeled, "The Beat Club Demo." In researching its origins, I found that this song, from 1983, was also recorded in 1986 by a short-lived band from Champaign, Illinois, called Second Thoughts, but was never released.
Now the song has been meticulously re-created in all its New Wave glory. Long may it wave.

Featuring BA, Howie Kantoff, and the magic bass-slapping of Diamond Dave Rothkopf.

lyrics

:: Lyrics ::
There’s a tiny little island where they all like tea,
And they drive their cars on the wrong side of the street
They’ve got punks, and mods, and rockers, too;
And rock & roll music by you know Who.

They’re all screwed up in England
Yeah, they’re all screwed up.

They’re a monarchy with a queen or king,
But the monarch can’t do anything.
Their house is parliamentary
Since Cromwell changed their history.

They’ve got lots of fog and wind and rain
You know the weather over there is always the same.
But none of this would matter to me
If they hadn’t invaded us back in ’63.

There’s a tiny little island where they all like tea,
And they drive their cars on the wrong side of the street
They’ve got punks, and mods, and rockers, too;
And rock & roll music by a band called The Who.

They’re all screwed up in England
Yeah, they’re all screwed up.
